Theodore, Saskatchewan | I would say that varieties will perform different depending on the area. However for my farm the varieties that stand out are definitely Pioneer H31 and Proven VT 530 and 533. This year though the VT 533 performed great but had more disease. Did strip trials last year and the Dekalb was more than 5 bpa less than the other RR varieties. And invigor L252 is a great variety (liked l150 as well but no longer available). So we grow both RR and Liberty for rotation purposes. The liberty makes it easy to control volunteer canola imo.
I think economically you have to see if someone will price the seed to $500 a bag if possible. My Pioneer rep can get the price down by throwing in extra bags of seed at not cost.
So overall H31 is going to be hard to beat.
As for the lumiderm I don't do it. If cutworms are bad you still have losses because they have to eat the seed to die. And for flea beetles I spray Sevin with first pass herbicide. A couple dollars and acre for sevin makes more sense and you can scout to see if you need it.
