Subject: RE:Today's rainfall totals?

Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow
I'm not sure that you can get actual rainfall totals even for the US until the next day, simply because you won't know until it happens. You can easily get the same kind of weather forecasts for Brazil as for the US, but they're just that, forecasts. And those radar rainfall totals aren't any more accurate for Brazil than for here. The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) shows the previous days rainfall totals using a system of rain gauges. While it has it's own limitations, not enough stations, you can at least be sure that the rainfall at the station actually made it to the ground. This discrepancy between the actual rainfall and radar rainfall is particularly problematic when the rainfall is scattered & sporadic such as for scattered popup thundershowers.
This summer this area was a good example of the difference between radar rain & actual rainfall. According to the radar we got all sorts of rain but very little actual rainfall.
