They cut year around in some states, so you can enjoy those shoots.
I am up north, and we stop cutting around July 4th, not sure why, and let the ferns grow up,
to feed the roots. We burn off the dead growth in early spring, late April, and go from there.
This is what we do as well.... haven't burnt it off though. We chop the fern very early spring. Cutting it now weakens the roots and has a possibility of introducing more disease. Too late now, but would advise against doing it too often. |
