I don't think religion is helping this discussion one bit. There are people out there who need help, not inane ramblings and confusion.

I don't suffer from depression but have been close to several who have. It is a medical problem with several possible causes and partial solutions. There is no single "happy pill" but a number of medications that will take the edge off and let a person get back to functioning.

Everyone can get depressed. That is normal. You lose a loved one or a job or a pet and it's tough for a while. This type of depression is situational -- caused by something external. It tends to last several days or maybe a couple weeks, then it relents. Clinical depression is different. It is organic in nature -- not caused by events but by chemical issues in the brain. It drags on for months or years and leaves a person unable to hold a job, maintain relationships, of even care for themselves. If someone you love is suffering from clinical depression, get them help. Fast.
