I'd suggest that you consider a bigger home. Not extravagant or overly large but you don't want to be messing with maintaining your current model when you get older. We (I before we were married) bought a 2,000 square foot ranch and added on 660 more 8 years later as our family expanded. It has served us well and will be a fine size as we enter late summer of our lives. Just MHO. A home is more than a building but it is also to serve you, not be demanding.


Believe me, we are not intending to stay here forever. But you still have to stay on top of maintenance to preserve as much value it has. My point is there are homes in the area that are $225k plus, and I just can't see spending that on a house. I know it is supposed to be an "investment" that will appreciate but I would rather invest in my farming, kid's college, other ventures than sinking it into a home.
