Subject: RE: reusing shower tiles

Coldwater, Michigan
They always come loose in the shower. They look nice until they don't. When my last one fell, after 20+ years, and we tried to keep the grout in good shape, It was a early sunday morning when they crashed into the metal bath tube.

We woke up fast that morning! We knew it was going to happen because they were coming loose farther up the wall over time. We replaced all the tile in the bathroom with green board plaster sheets, then put a shower surround in for the tub. Replaced the tub at the same time. The tile formed a curb where the shower curtain pole was mounted. We eliminated the curb when we took all the tile out. We do maintain the caulking around the tub and surround, but we no longer have to mess with the tile. One of the best things we did with the bathroom. New sink, toilet, shower and walls. We used the opportunity for a complete remake.
