Subject: RE: Any naval people on here

NW Washington
I have ridden a Guided Missile Destroyer across the Atlantic and back and spent a winter cruising around the Mediterranean sea. We saw our share of heavy weather, and looking through "green water" up on bridge when you go through a big one. You want to stay headed into the sea if possible as it gets real scary if you get cross-ways in trough. You just hang on an hope for the best. No one goes outside unless it is an emergency and then only when tied to a stout line/rope. One of our Captains used to have to have a puke bucket on the bridge when the going got tough. It is hard to eat when your plate slides away, and if it get to bad then the bread and cold cuts come out.
The Navy lost some destroyers in a storm during WWII because they were light on fuel and did not ballast down with sea water so you pay attention to that stuff too.
I have seen water over the bow of an aircraft carrier too, but they rid a lot better than a destroyer.
