Looks like more proof of the Oklahoma State and others contentions that the cattle market s and particularly feeders are not reacting to supply and demand or other real market conditions. More "portfolio management" and computers trying to outsmart each other with paper feeders than anything else. Imho.
So how can a farmer feeder or even cow calf guy stay solvent through these paper trader gyrations, Jim? Today the traders screen was green, but there weren't any correlative increases in the cash price bids. If it is red tomorrow, the country buyers will drop their bids another two dollars. Right now the packs are saying they are scheduled out and they aren't getting any too excited knowing the wall of pork they'll be competing with in a couple more months. How do these traditional ranches that make their living on one paycheck a year when they haul their calf crop to town make sure they are getting a fair price on that day with all the paper trader games. What can we do to stay in this game and quit being the pawns who top off the captive supply run for the packers each week? |
