One thing I can tell you is if you have coyotes around they will harvest them for you when they get ripe. Coons were eating all my sweet corn so I quit trying to raise any. Now the coyotes are eating all my watermelons and cantaloupes. I hope the deer don't eat all my fall garden crops.
