Subject: Greasing a sealed bearing

So, I'm trying to restore this old Oliver 5' sickle mower to attach to my compact utility tractor to mow under trees and other stuff. Here in the photo you see the main shaft. To the right is the PTO shaft and to the left is a hub on which bolts a V belt pulley, the belt leading to the pitman. Anyway there is no way of greasing or oiling the bearings in this shaft. Would it do any good to drill a hole in the housing and put in a zerk and pump some grease in, or would I be wasting my time? I don't know when was the last time this thing was used but the bearing seems to be in fairly good shape.
