That is a Monarch caterpillar on the milkweed.
Great science lesson for kids to take it carefully into a glass jar with holes in the lid and keep feeding it fresh milkweed every day and from the size of that one in just a few days it will attach itself to the lid and change into a crysillus
About 10 days later you will have a new Monarch and if you catch it coming out of the chrysillus you can watch it pump up its wings and eventually fly away.
Carefully place the lid on open supports after it has changed to the crysillus
BTW I would call it a Yak too but I don't really know if I am right.
Used to scuffle corn with a JD 'B' with a wrap around scuffler like that.
