your answer has nothing to do with the OP question

second -- in this neck of the woods land was cheaper in 1986 than 1988 most likely for the same reason you thought of in your post -- it's that if you do what everybody else is doing then you had better be faster than everybody else.

third its about neither reread the OP it was simply a question from him on time duration.

So tell me Clay was the farmer that bought land in 1986 for about 20ish % of the 1980 high just lucky or perhaps understood how herd mentality works.

I guess some worry about how to pay for grain bins and miss the ability to pay for land funny how that works.

or so it seems to me
