| When downloading the original programs, ALWAYS download from the publisher of the software. I have also fallen victim to the "download your software from the faster, quicker xxxxxxx.Net/Com/Org/RU servers."
When doing that - CNET in particular does this - that original software is packaged with bloat-ware and other unwanteds, including the ASK search bar, altering your home page, etc.
ALSO - one of the first things "well-written" viruses/malware will do is interfere with your MalwareBytes, anti-virus updates, etc. Think about it for a second. If you're a miscreant wanting to do devious things on your computer, but you know AVG-MalwareBytes-Sophos etc will catch you, or stop your hard work, your first task will be to take that #1 defense against you off-line or weaken it. The easiest, quickest thing they can do is block the author's update or download web-site.
