Southeast Colorado | I see lots of comments on here saying that this years crop is finishing too fast to equate to great yields. We have been planting later to make the ears fill mostly in later August and September. The idea is that the temps are usually a little cooler and the day is definitely shorter. I had a debate with my agronomist the other day and he thinks I should be planting earlier. He thinks that more hours of sunlight will help. We do have trouble with dry down but yields have improved since going to later planting. It's hard to completely quantify the improved yields entirely based on the late planting because we have changed other practices as well. Is my agronomist or me correct when it comes to giving this corn its best chance for high yields? | |
