Frytown, Iowa | great group of guys. one is a familiar name here on agtalk. another guy has my farm for his back yard. they honestly do a great job at trying to bring useful data/information to the local farmer...

Red River Valley | I will assume they have done a valid crop tour if they are the type of people you believe them to be, Its going to make keeping IOWA under 200 a chore.

North Central Illinois | That was my thought too but move along, nothing to see here!

Wow maybe 2.79 is in play. Those are incredible yields.

I find it hard to believe that Henderson and mercer county will beat warren county. Warren county has a lot of wind damage but Henderson and mercer counties have a fair amount of poor soil along the river that generally drags on their county average. I'm not calling it a bad crop but slightly suspect. I think usda calls Henderson 204 and warren 214 so their numbers are close. I don't remember what usda has for mercer.

NW Barton County Missouri | I was expecting bigger yields out of Iowa with the way some have talked. Impressive none the less.

Dougherty, IA | turdypointbuck - 8/22/2016 20:52 I was expecting bigger yields out of Iowa with the way some have talked. Impressive none the less. Many of those counties are in the armpit of Iowa for growing corn. If those yields came through on a USDA/NASS report as actual yields, with Northern Iowa looking as good as it does, the state would average over 200 pretty easy. I would guess many of those counties will be lower on USDA/NASS reports at the end of the day.

I'm not going to pick on that much, looks like they've done a pretty good job. I will say that in regard to the state as a whole, many of the counties which had the tougher weather this spring and didn't get the saving rains quite in time at tasseling are powerhouse counties for corn acreage. Corn within an hour's drive of here is generally about as nice as I've ever seen, however a county with 60,000 acres of corn doesn't quite offset one with 200k+ that's had a worse growing season.

McLeod County, MN | Trying to derive corn yields from worthless kernel counts in a small sample of fields is like trying to wipe your ass with a pine cone. It might "work," but there are better ways to do it.

SE MT | I wouldn't know good corn or beans from bad ones. Heck I couldn't guess within a hundred bushel what a good Iowa corn crop looks like. But since I went from west to East (River to River) and pretty much the North half of the state at about a few hundred feet it was hard to find too many hairs out of place. BWTHDIK. Not trying to jinks the market and I realize it's not in the bin yet either. Here's a few pics... Casey Iowa | I've talked to plenty of people in Iowa, it's my home state....90% or more say we are off 20 bushel from last year....last year Iowa averaged 192.....I'm not saying Iowa will average only 172 this year....but I am willing to bet a lot of $'s that Iowa won't average 200.....it's not realistic!!! I would bet 182 area.....that might even be a struggle to get there!!
