Subject: rhubarb, plants and planting ?

East central Iowa

We had rhubarb plants but a building fell on them and I didn't get it cleared quick enough so the plants are gone.  I'd like to plant some new rhubarb but looking at some they seem to have spindly stalks compared to what we had.  I've read that cherry, crimson and Canadian red are good.

Any recommendations with regard to variety, source and when to plant?  I was told we could plant late fall.
