Subject: cereal rye and weed control

Southern IL
had a few acres of cereal rye, that I no tilled beans into, 1 qt of powermax 1 oz sharpen and 1 qt prefix, very clean, just a few grass escapes here and there, no waterhemp or marestail. Have not needed to post spray. other fields that I didn't have rye, have waterhemp and other weeds. no-tilled into weeds and trash in these fields with clean burndown. Is it the canopy that is smothering the other weeds? Or does rye have something that inhibits growth of other weeds. (for whats its worth, even where rye is thinner, its still clean)
