Subject: Weed seed bank

S.E. Iowa
I just got done combining a field that was in peas. With all the rain in the last 30 days and the peas mature the weeds really came on. The guy that owns the field said 60 years of chemical use and look at the weeds. I know weeds have a purpose of keeping the planet green. This is the first year of no chemicals on this field and quite frankly I have no idea how the weeds could get thicker. Seeing construction most anywhere and there being a big cut or fill and shortly after weeds are growing. Is it really possible to reduce the weeds seed bank in the soil? I have some organic corn this year that will rival conventional but timing has been on my side. Last year the same field was a COMPLETE disaster due to constant rain.
