Southern Wisconsin | To start my 1480 has a chopper from the 16 series I think maybe newer sickle section stationary knives double pulleys for high/low just jump the belt over and that splined shaft on the chopper rotor anyway when combining small grains and not chopping just windrowing wih stationary knives out should I run the chopper in high? I believe I did the last couple years but this year I didn't and had a really hard time getting rye clean like a really hard time I was setup the same as last year and last year I had no issue making seed this year lots of small head pieces and straw I tried it all and that chopper being in low was the only difference I'm thinking it was congesting the rotor causing it to grind straw at the back especially since I had a windrow as wide as the Chaffer in very poor rye last year it was about a foot wide same yield last year same farm same everything but chopper speed make sense ? I never gave the chopper a thought until I was done.. | |
