N FLA
I do pretty well incorporating our daughter into the farm. She has her own cows, that were purchased for $450 each and are better cows than my own. They have names. She retains heifers, sells her steers and saves that money in her college account. She understands that as well as a 7 year old can.

In reality, the rate her herd grows, someday the 200 head will be hers, and all my old cows will be culled out and that will be ok with me. I may lose the opportunity to be my own boss. In reality, she will probably have to finance her own division as it grows. However, feed and management is a freebie for now.

One of the challenges I have is that I am working long hours before I get to the cattle, and the cattle are just a minimal amount of time. My working long hours allows my wife to work part time and spend more time raising our daughter and taking care of our home, finances, etc. I am in fact a little resentful that i might be working 60 hours a week to provide for the family, then getting the third degree about a couple hours, or a full day once awhile, with the cattle. When that is the part of my day or week that I enjoy being my own boss, doing something for myself.
