Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow
What would you accomplish with a depression? Punish the 1% by taking away all the funny money they've accumulated since 2008? Well maybe you would actually manage to inconvience a few of them. But the collateral damage to the 99%, especially the lowest 40% would be catestrophic.
For example, in 2007 the total market capitalization of the world's stock markets was just over $ 60 trillion, by 2008 it had dropped to $32 trillion. It topped out in 2014 at $63.3 trillion and has dropped slightly since then. What is that $30 trillion dollar difference, well a good deal of it is probably just cheap money borrowed from the central banks.
In the meantime wages and incomes of the vast majority of the population have stagnated. What good will it do to punish them more?
