...two quart of glyphosate, and wait till it yellows, then disc it. Chisel will tear it into big clumps...disc will make small clumps. Let it lay 10 days...and disc it again. You're wanting to let the dirt on the alfalfa roots dry, then get it busted and shaken off. As for what to seed it to, are you looking for something to seed this fall or next spring? Triticale would take advantage of the nitrogen from the alfalfa and provide a very nice fall harvest if you get it seeded soon. You could also seed it later in the fall and let it overwinter and harvest a crop from it next year, then plant a row crop. I don't think I'd go right back to alfalfa this fall...but if you got a cutting of triticale off of it this fall...a spring seeding of alfalfa no-tilled into the stubble might work well.
