Subject: RE: Organic Farming Conversion

east central iowa
I farm a couple organic fields for some extra money on some ground I bought last year as it was crp. I got started farming by doing organic so it was not new to me. How will you make 5 to 6 times as much. Here organic corn is around 8 conventional is 4 feed grade organic 22 conventional 11. The rotation year on organic needs to be factored in. Maybe the food grade are 30 but there is clean out and splits to factor in. Corn is pretty easy on good ground. Do you have a good manure source? Beans are tough. At first not bad but after a few years it gets tougher. It's actually only 3 years from last chem app so if you put your pre down in April didn't respray you could be organic In 2 years. everything always looks better on paper not saying it doesn't work or won't make you more money but unless your doing vegetables I don't think I would pencil 5 to 6 times the income. Good luck
