here ddg can sometimes be had for 85% the value of corn, the energy content is basically the same as corn. Feeding straight corn isn't as practical because it doesn't contain enough protein and we're trying to avoid have to mix a feed. Also, it seems like young calves benefit from the extra protein in ddg. We have generally fed around 10-12lb per day to young calves on pastures. Have also done the same thing with hay in ring as the forage source and got along fine.

There are better ways of feeding cattle, but for the cost and simplicity, straight ddg is very practical for some situations, at least I fee like it has been cost effective for us.
