OpenOffice is an open source (freeware) project that clones several of the Microsoft Office programs. I believe it is still available, altho I think it fell apart somewhat and might not be strongly supported any more.
Apache Office and Libreoffice both 'took over' on making new, free Office clones. There is debate on which is better.
I would look up those 3 names.
There are simpler note taker type programs, I think Note Pad or something still comes with Windows 10?

I went with Apache Open Office when I switched to Win 10. The various parts are similar enough to the MS programs I used in the past to suit my needs. I don't make as many spreadsheets as I once did nor use a Word Processor as much but this has filled my needs.
