This is a sobering thread, both my grandfathers had disease of the mind. One had Alzheimer and the earliest memory I have of him he had already lost the ability to speak and could only walk with the help of my grandmother. He was diagnosed with it in his 60's and lived with it for almost 30 years, my grandmother cared for him the whole time and they eventually moved in with us when I was around 7 years old. He was in a complete vegetative state for the last 10 years. The other had Parkinson and he could be completely lucid about certain things in the past and present, then not recognize you an hour later. Hard to imagine either one of my parents ending up the same way, sometimes they do things that make me wonder but I tell myself it's just a mistake or lack of effort or motivation. Then I catch myself having similar problems especially with names, I can't remember names to save my life and usually substitute a different name than the one I want. Getting old is a real female dog.
