Hail took off all cotyledons or any plants with cotyledons and leaves.  Just left a stem, maybe 1/2 to 1 inch long.  Will that stem grow new leaves?  Hit 30-50% of my emerged plants.

Planted in 30 inch rows, 1 to 1.5 inches deep.   Dropped about 160-161,000.

SE Nebraska. Happened night of Friday May 27th.

Do not seen any growth on those stems as of this morning.

Had another .5 inch rain last night. Out of the last 8 days we have had 7 with some amount of rain.

That will really hurt the stand. You have time to replant so do so. Don't take a chance as i don't think you would like looking at them all summer.

Stated that the growing point is at the axles of the plant.  If the cotyledons are taken, most likely the growing point is gone also.

Computer said that 160,000 stand = 100% yield,       120,000 (75%) = 98%,      80,000 (50%) = 90%       40,000 (25%) = 75% of potential yield.

If planted on June 4 I will loose 18% of potential yield.

June 9th loose 24%,

June 14th loose 30%

June 19th loose 36%

June 24th loose 43%.

So I will prob. just have to take the lumps and live with the loss.

If you have 70-80,000 left and don't have large gaps, you may be surprised how well they still do.

I dunno about your yield loss calculations. Beans planted the 15 of May last year made 44bpa. 25th of June made 7 1.5, 7th of july 55.6. Won't happen every year but this year has a lot of similarities to last. These were hill beans.

Depending on the rest of the growing season planting now versus leaving a half stand I would take my chances on Mother Nature and get them replanted. If all you got is a stem left there done. They won't come back like corn can if growing point is low enough

At 90,000 you a still have 100% yield. At 80,000 you probably have 95%. If you see leaves shooting out of the stem they are good.

If it were me on 30" rows I'd offset my drawbar and plant in between the rows at a half rate and travel the same tire tracks as the first plant.

Also called ins. adjust and seeds sales man to get 2 more opinions.  Not sure my counts are right.

Lowest count was 42,000.  Other 7 counts varied from 55 to 70.   Many counts in the 60's.   If all I counted are correct.  I may have been to generous in what will produce and what will not.

Just went through this last year. My beans were a little bigger. One field the hail adjuster said a 4% loss and I agreed, not much damage. Those beans were screwed up for the rest of the year. Grew flat along the ground, didn't get big and bushy, just looked poor all year. They yielded 35 bu/a when the county average was probably 60. Other beans I had got hit hard and definitely needed replanting. Other beans were probably like yours, I wasn't sure they needed replanting but I stuck in a half rate anyhow. Glad I did, the replant beans made the yield. Only thing I would have done different was to plant the new beans in between the other rows or plant at a slight angle. Often it looked like the taller damaged beans were keeping the new beans from growing as well as they could have. It's still early. I would plant at least a half rate if I had any doubts at all. Good luck to you. Hail sucks. edit if your beans look like pic 3 get planting asap

Had same thing last year, bout this time. Planted 155k, had anywhere from 45k-120k left, avg 96k, they said had to be under 90k to pay replant. I left them, the 1/4 avgd 59 bu. May have been 70 if replanted who knows.
