W.C. Mo. | We had one pick up a 5-16 plow that was inside a barn and throw it 1/4 mile. many years ago The power of those whirlywinds is just unbelievable. Watched some trash floating way up in the sky like a leaf. As it circled back toward me it got bigger and bigger until I realized it was at least a 30 ft square section of the metal roof from the barn.

Central Ga | Wow!! I'm thankful I was not there and my heart goes out to those who were. I notice the tractors are all upright. Does anyone have any idea if the damage was done to the tractors as they sat where they are or were they moved around by the storm??

East Central Kansas | feet. "Bounce" marks were found in the soil along its path. The Landoll disc was hooked to one of the red 4WDs at that location. As of several days ago not all equipment was had been found. That farm is also the location where the ballast was sucked out from under a set of railroad tracks and the tracks bent. JAK

NC KS | I always thought something heavy like a tractor was almost safe except for flying glass. Pictures show a different story. Where were these at? Chapman area?

Stafford County, Kansas | Local guy was sucked out and thrown to the ground of an 8400T here a couple years ago. Was in hospital awhile but he's alright now. Pictures look horrible. Tornado hit that place head on.

Central Iowa | What a shame! There is probably a good chance that this farmer was/is a regular viewer or poster on this site. I hope he can get back on his feet soon. I wouldn't wish that kind of trouble on anyone. It looked like a line up of machinery that nearly any of us would have been proud to work with. Mainly, I hope everyone is ok.

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | Don't think I have ever seen an implement like a disc tore apart like that in a tornado.

E. Kansas | How awful. What was the official Weather Service rating of this tornado at this guy's farm?

Hazelton, Kansas | John, If anyone else would have posted the railroad track story, I would have called BS... Amazing. Regards. MDS

newberry fl | If it wasn't for the pictures that would be unbelievable. Prayers for those affected by that.
Wildcat385 |

Central KS | It was rated an EF4. The new rating system of these storms is somewhat skewed. When these storms go through rural areas like this, I think a lot of times the people who rate them, underestimate their strength because of the limited number of homes that are damaged.

East Central Kansas | Also if it could happen anywhere it would be at that location, the single track was slightly higher than the surrounding topography, unprotected from the NW, from which the tornado came. I suspect that the track itself might have been hit by flying debris. I'll see if I can locate the track damage image. JAK

| ||
East Central Kansas | Looking at the image again, I see that a lot of the ballast was still present. The image reinforces my thought that the track was struck by flying debris.
