Subject: Water gate pics

SEMO
Built a new water gate a few weeks ago and after seeing NE IA Dairys post below I thought I'd share. I had a breakaway wire strung up but was tired of putting it back up after every 1" of rain. We get a lot of water coming through the creek around here so I needed something pretty tall. It turned out great and and has survived a couple bank full rain events already. I used 1/4" cable run from a tree to a post in the ground taller than the water gets. I then dropped 3/32 cable 18' long down from that spaced out every 20" using metal conduit. I then slipped 3/4 pvc pipe over the cable to keep the cables from twisting around each other. There is about 16" of cable sticking out from the pipe. The 1/4" cable is insulated and I have a hot wire running to it through a kencove water gate controller. The pics with water in the creek is after 1-1/2" of rain. After about 3-4" water will be half way up the post like it is right now in the last pic.
