Can cut cost some by going partly slatted over pit or the older way scrapping to a gutter which you drain off to tank or lagoon.
DO NOT do this!!! I did it in 1993 and have hated it every since. The "day" pit is hard to manage with solids building up to the slats at times. The pigs will crap at the high point 90% of the time and you will get 6" buildup caked on the solid areas at times if you don't want to religiously scrap manure every day.
If you did want to drain to a lagoon/outdoor pit make it a full slat building with at least 2' below the slates.
My building was 64X26 and held 200 pigs. It was originally naturally ventilated, but I soon changed to fan ventilation. The rate of gain in that building was the same as my fully slatted buildings, but the cleanout was awful. Good luck |
