Lakeland, Florida | Yes, Big Ben, the Port of Nueva Palmira (NP) is still the main grain port in Uruguay, but this new terminal in Montevideo (video) should help shift more grain exports and wood chips from NP to the capital city. The estimated $100 million project was a public/private partnership between the National Port Authority (ANP) and a private firm, Orbinel. The country needs it, because the roads in and around NP are in terrible shape due to the number of timber trucks hauling cut eucalyptus to the country's two pulp mills, UPM and Montes del Plata. |
