Kingston,Mi | There were 5 SGT.s that rotated NCOIC(non commissioned officer in charge) in a training company that fluctuated between 400 and 600 eager young volunteers. The mess hall comped a free meal to the on duty SGT. before they were relieved by the First Sgt. and the officers. The other SGT.s were on their last enlistment and all had served more that 20 years in the Corp Of Engineers with a couple who had been drafted and served in WW2 and I youngest having enlisted in 1972. 3 of the other 4 were Blacks from the tidewater area of Virginia and North Carolina and were a fascinating group of food junkies. They are responsible for showing me the recipe for fine dining when it involves grits at breakfast. | |
