18c ditch system
How soon will white mold set in after repeating this 1970s practice?

I drill beans and have very little to no white mold problems.

If you have no history of white mold you have a chance. We blocked every other hole on a 5400 drill to try some narrower rows but still allow for better airflow. The fields we did have no white mold history.

Thanks. I would have liked to have a powershift but the quad range has treated me well.

7.5 in. Rows here. What's white mold???

To be honest, I've heard of it, but I've never seen it.

After being in some sort of narrow row beans for at least 30 years we went to 30" rows in 2014. First white mold we have ever had, don't think I would place all the blame on drilled beans. None last year and hopefully none in the future.

We always drill ours and get about the same white mould as everyone else so I don't think it really makes much difference. The only time we really see a lot of it is if August is really wet but wider rows help with that

I think it can be more of a variety problem sometimes. We always drill beans and are in an area very prone to white mold. I've seen bad white mold on 30" and 15" beans (my dad has a Cessna, he's sees it all) and it has yet to ever be an issue on our farm in drilled beans, rare to see any actually but we look for resistance when selecting varieties and have some varieties we keep seeding because we really like them. Oh ya and drilled beans always yield more here.

yep i go for resistance too. when white mould does pop up it's usually just a few spots. i've never seen it actually ruin a field around here but my area is usually pretty dry too so it's not usually as much of an issue. the more troublesome thing lately is the aphids. everyone around me last year claimed their fields were full of them but i never found any in mine. would think if the field next to mine is supposedly full of them mine would be too but i walked that damn field every few days for a month and nothing. either way i never sprayed for them(or the mould) and got pretty much the same yield as everyone else i've talked to. had drought most of the year so hardly anyone got over 30bu

i see a lot of people getting to co-op to walk their fields and those are the same people that seem to be spraying all year long yet they get basically the same results so i really don't see how it's worth it
