SW “Ohia” | Hello all.
Came across this awesome site while searching for some IH cultivator info.
http://leighrobertson.net/own.html
It is a sort of autobiography written by a California tomato grower. Covers his operation from 1971 to 1979. One of the neatest things I have come across lately. Lots of detailed info from a farmers perspective that you don't usually find anywhere else. He talks about their tillage practices using crawler tractors, how automated tomato harvesters came into popularity, and other details that I was never aware of. Lots of color pictures too. Amazing the details that are mentioned. It is a long read but absolutely worth it to see it grow from nothing, to a full scale operation, to retirement.
There is another similar section where he talks about being an International-Harvester mechanic and salesman from 1953 to 1967. Again, a different perspective than our Midwest operations. Vegetables were king. Lots of interesting equipment and practices. Hi-crop tractors, crawlers, heavy rippers, fumigation equipment, etc. Also a ton of particular detail for things that occurred that long ago.

There are several pages on the site like that, but those two are the most interesting as far as farming goes. Based on the main page, the fellow who wrote all the stuff passed away in 2010, but a relative published it all online to read.
