A Doctoral Degree is not necessarily a lucrative profession as your post suggests. There are plenty of PhD. programs that graduate folks who will barely be able to make a living in that field outside the university setting.
Oh, and they almost always come at quite the cost too, many end up over 100k in debt these days.
