Subject: Interseeding early summer cover crops in corn

South Central Illinois

What is the story of planting Rye in standing corn in early summer in the northern states?

I understand that this helps the Rye have an early start on fall growth.

The Rye gets started then kinda goes dormant for the summer.

What height is the corn when this is done?
