Subject: RE: fertilizing cover crops

King City, Mo
I spread fertilizer every year. So if a cover is planted it gets fertilizer. Helps cycle nutrients. Feed the biology and all good stuff.

If a guy was trying to save some costs of application mixing the fertilizer in with cover seed and getting your lbs applied per acre up to where you could double spread the mix.

Now....the ones who think cover crops are the fix all and aren't applying fertilizer for their covers saying it he cover is bringing fertility up from deeper in the soil...... We'll have you pulled deeper soil tests? I am trying to put fertility deeper on my farm by chiseling some of it in as the top 6" has been improved a lot and sucks when we get deeper then that...

Also when you apply fertilizer and get more biomass that is a good thing when trying to increase organic matter.
