Subject: RE: sheep questions

Profits in sheep swing from lambing ewes to the feed lot cyclically. A few years ago the money was in the feed lot and I questioned why I had ewes. currently the profits are on the ewe flock again. I'd like to pick up some feeders, but they are basically break even today when you add in the challenges of purchased lambs. Shoot me an email I have a calculator for figuring feeder lamb bids if you want.

One thing about feeding lambs is that commercial supplement pellets are way out of line for commercial sheep production. To feed lambs cost efficiently you really need to build a ration from the ground up with corn, SBM, DDGS, hulls, midds and what ever is cheapest. Feed just enough hay to keep the rumen functioning. It just adds days on feed and kills feed efficiency.
