No. Definitely not. I started buying thin cows in 2011. Guys said my rye/ryegrass is probably perfect for stockers. But i'm working 6-7 days a week in the summer and can't babysit calves like they need. Plus out of town a lot. However, i have more spare time in winter.

I'm really trying to work with the seasonal market and forage. Also not get blown out as a beginner. Local market is offering $471 for 425# heifers (Go ahead and take off 5% for commission and fees). At some point you need to become a buyer and not a seller on that deal.

But like JD said, if i can pick up the phone, and put an extra $4k in my pocket, I'm gonna go ahead and do that. And if i need to pickup some 575# steers or heifers to go with mine that isn't too big of a deal.
