Over the last couple days here in the South Eastern States of Australia most dairy farmers will be trying to work out how they are going to survive. Murray Goulburn, the largest Australian processor has said it will pay between AU$4.75 and AU$5.00 per kg/ms, down from AU$5.60kg/ms. The other milk processors follow MG's price so there is not much hope anyone else will pay much more. Exchange rates and world prices are the reasons. With poor seasonal conditions last spring and no real opening rains yet this year it is tough going.

A lot of people around here are jumping for joy on milk prices. I commented to one stranger in the store that a lot of dairies will go under with the current prices. I can not imagine making much at .99 cents a gallon in the store.

Edited to ask why are prices dropping was there a bunch of over production?
