Cleaner air.. ethanol is not carcinogenic unlike some of it's alternatives for octane.. And mostly it's still the cheapest octane source to make gasoline. 10% ethanol was exactly $.20 cheaper than the ethanol free alternative at the pump last night.. $2.31 vs $2.51. I just talked with the local plant manager and he mentioned that the US shale's are lighter.. and hence kicking out less octane. That the US was actually importing reformate to make octane.. assume it costs more than ethanol. So far it's good.. maybe Cruse was right? The world still uses (last time I heard..) 6 billion gallons of MTBE.. it's a no brainer that US ethanol should replace that. |
