Nebraska | First off, totally agree with you on property taxes on farm ground, starting to get ridiculously high. The problem I see is everyone wants to lower the property taxes, but no one is coming up with another source of revenue. Seems like that is talked about at a very minimal degree. One idea would be to allow casinos in the state. I cringe when I think about how many people go to Council Bluffs, Sioux City, etc to spend a night at a motel, go eat a nice supper and spend money in the casino. If we brought casino's here, the majority of the people would stay closer. Use the money generated from the casino (1/2% tax on their income would be a lot of $), the hotels attached to casino tax, and the restaurants associated with them tax, and give those tax funds directly to state to disperse solely to school education.
You would see a huge boost from this, and also create jobs and tourism, which our state sorely needs. But about 8-10 years ago, when the casino issue was on the ballot, Tom & Nancy Osborne were against it, and got a lot of support to defeat the bill. A bad day for Nebraska... | |
