North Dakota | I loved the movie. Read the book and thought the movie was better. People have to read the back of the book in the Historical Note. Author states that many liberties were taken in the writing of the book. The book is labeled as fiction. There are not a lot of facts about Hugh Glass in the historical record. So the movie was based loosely on the book, but the book was based loosely on the true life of Hugh Glass. The grizzly bear attack did occur and some other facts are known. The movie was shot in the mountains in Canada. They wanted to do scenes along the Missouri but floods ruined the locations they were going to use.
