Eighty Four, PA | The 'Some People' post & threads below lead me to make 3 comments:
1) Those stories make the case for estate planning, be it a will or a trust. Put it in writing!! We set up a Irrevocable Living Trust for Mom about 2 years before she died. It forced me as the executor to get my arms around all of the financials, etc. Sure made it A LOT easier!!
2) Years ago Mom got the idea that she & Dad needed to make their funeral arrangements; Mom was working off the farm. Dad was not interested. Mom said, "What if I go first?" Done deal. Incidentally, Dad was 10 years older. When Dad died we took his suit to the funeral home, signed a couple of forms, and that was it for the funeral planning. Same thing when Mom died.
3) Check the pockets of suits taken to the funeral home. Wife's grandmother used to hide cash in her husband's suit pockets.
