Subject: RE: Yellowstone

We are planning on going this Aug, so have been researching this quite a bit. we plan to stay in lodging in the park, because we feel we would loose a considerable amount of park time just getting INTO the park and out each day. Most people advise not to drive in the park after dark, because of the wildlife on the road. Hitting a buffalo would not be a good thing! Also by staying in the park we can visit some popular features before the heavy crowds arrive, and after they leave, because they have to get out before dark. We will stay one night at old faithfull lodge, just so we can experience that area without the daytime crowds.

Right now if you look at the lodging website (http://www.yellowstonenationalparklodges.com/) everything is booked up (we booked our rooms back in Nov) but keep trying, it may pay to call instead of using the website. People make plans months ahead and them cancel them, so keep calling every day to check for cancellations if you want to stay in park.

Travel times are much longer in the park are much longer than you think. the rule of thumb if you see a milage number on a map, then double it to figure drive time. Sometimes animals will block traffic Bring a cooler in your car with drinks and sandwiches so you can eat lunch when you want without going back to one of the lodges.
