north west arkansas | Hard to say if it will make it if it hasn't had any colostrum before that. Yes, I would wait to at least 10 and it may not eat a whole lot then. Around here we can buy tubers at farm or feed stores. They make them with a soft bag or a hard plastic style. I personally like the hard one best but either will work. If you ever have to tube one you just carefully put it down there throat and then start the flow of the liquid. Make sure the tube is fully in the calf also. If your going to be calving cows I would suggest keeping a couple of packages of powdered colostrum on hand and also a tuber. That's very little investment but then if you have a problem you can deal with it without stressing where to go buy. If anymore questions just ask.
