I pull a 2 row 3pt Deere planter with a deere 2520 compact utility tractor, it's about 25 horse. I'd say 40 horse would pull a 4 row no problem. When we bought our first 12 row back in the late 1980's, we pulled it with a 90 someodd horse Deere 4040.
