You guys are comparing a RU ready corn to a conventional hybrid on price. Why not compare RU to RU? I was just quoted 240 a bag for agrigold 6499 that's $100 more a bag that this guy says he can buy his federal seed corn for. So at say 3.40 it will have to average 30 bu more to break even.
If he planted the conventional variety of federal vs the conventional 6499 at 170 then their would be a 90 dollar difference in price which would be a more fair comparison the 6499 needs to average 26 bu more per acre to break even.
We had some 6499 that fell on it's face this past year due to wet feet. Averaged 72 bu over 1/3 of our acres. My uncle planted the federal right across the road on tougher ground and averaged 110 bu more than we did.
