Northcentral Kansas | Here are some pictures after the blizzard. We had 10-12" of snow and 40-45mph wind. This is my first year harvesting my wheat with a stripper header and I am impressed with the amount snow I was able to keep on my fields. #1 is conventional tillage wheat. Pretty much all the snow blew off. #2 is straight cut wheat stubble held 6" of snow. #3 is stripped wheat stubble, This field is south of field in #2. It held 14" of snow. #4 is milo stubble held 16" of snow. The snow was fairly wheat with a liquid equivalent approximately .1" per 1" so the stripped field had and additional .8" of moisture. That along with additional shading during the summer should mean extra yield since water is almost always our limiting nutrient.
Sorry had the order mixed up. Now it is correct.
