What are your soil tests showing for zinc levels? Owned or rented ground can influence how much you build Zn levels also.
"Here" the most cost effective way to build zinc levels is to add zinc sulfate with broadcast dry fertilizer. 10-20# depending on how low the soil test is. The wolf trax product is part zinc sulfate and part zinc oxide. Most opinions out there state that oxides are not as good of a fertilizer source(some say they're garbage). You're definitely right about spending big dollars for not very many lbs of zn with wolf trax. I wouldn't worry about how far apart the Zn sulfate granules are unless the fertilizer isn't getting blended well.
